they take themselves to damned seriously...
They will probably be pleasently suprised how fast the US forgets about this whole sordid affair.
France is lucky. They really don't have any enemies so they are free to despise Americans. Americans are wealthy, powerful, good looking, charming, and they actually love to be hated and envied by the rest of the world.
Thus it can be said that the US-France relationship is really one of symbiotic-mutual hatred and resentment!
