Each JDAMS bomb costs upwards of $25,000 while a dumb bomb is under $1000. Each cruise missile costs over a million dollars. Had we wanted to, we could've sent dozens of bombers loaded with dumb bombs and leveled a few square miles of Baghdad. It would've cost only a fraction of what we spend in that one attack.
However, we didn't do that. We spend a lot of money using our most precise weapons to strike carefully selected targets. In a short time, we injected a few million pounds of high explosives into a city of some 5 million people and only killed 3 innocent civilians and wounded a couple hundred. While any loss of innocent life is a tragedy, this is accuracy unprecedented in warfare.
Current Events » in reply to Saddam's spokeman himself cited only 3 civilians killed
We expended about a billion dollars of ordance to keep the civilian deaths that low
