Re: If Saddam is dead/incapacitated, what is behind the resistance?

What is behind the Iraqi resistance?

I think it is mass confusion...Individual Iraqi units probably have no idea what the True situation is, or who their leaders are, and as such they are either unable or afraid to surrender.

I'm really surprised the Democrats and UN diplomats haven't picked up on this yet but Iraq has a huge vacuum of power at the top. When we eliminated the top leadership, we also eliminated their ability to arrange a NEGOTIATED surrender...I suspect that as soon as the Democrats pick up on this they will be outraged, flabbergasted, and disgusted. The argument will go something like: "The Iraqi's want peace, they want to surrender, but the Bush administration is killing everyone with the power to order and or negotiate a final surrender."

My guess on the current state of Iraqi Leadership:

Sadam is dead.
Uday and Qsay are probably dead.
Terak Aziz is dead.
Several other Generals and top administration officials are dead or wounded and there isn't a fight for power of Iraq because they are unaware of Sadam's whereabouts and they are still terrified of his vengeance.

The US probably has intelligence to this effect but will not confirm it because to do so would force the issue on the Iraqi leadership, and they would then be forced to unite around some other central leader BEFORE the coalition is done with its complete decapitation campaign.

In short: We want them to surrender to the Coalition and NOT Surrender to the UN diplomatic community...

The truth is, the longer they take to surrender the better for the coalition...It allows us time to move more and more forces and equipment into place so that the UN will have no choice but to include the coalition in the Post-war Iraq plan (whatever that ultimately will be). And if it goes on long enough, it might lock out the UN in its entirety.

History will tell all, but my guess is Sadam has been dead since the first bomb hit Baghdad.
