I would probably say they stood up against an idiot more than they stood up for Bush.
It would take one hell of a rabid leftist to approve of such rank pissing in the eye of taste and protocol. Even Hollywood types have their limits. More calm and reasoned pleas for peace were better received, as were prayers and good wishes for the troops overseas. (I didn't see the whole show, and missed Moore except on radio sound bites).
I have modestly put forth the concept of the human mind getting so wrapped up in its own fantasy world that it closes in on itself and becomes impervious to outside facts and reason. A mental black hole, only in reverse: it spews constantly, but nothing ever comes in the other way.
A phenomenon not limited to leftists by any means, but showing up a lot there lately, and if Iraq pans out as I think it will, its going to get worse.
Moore seems well along in this process, and his rationality is hanging on a thinner thread all the time. The forum on his page is still down, "for technical reasons." I think I know what the real reasons were.
I see him in ten years, with millions in the bank, babbling endlessly to himself as he pushes a stolen shopping cart full of aluminum cans down the street.
