Current Events

The thin varnish of hubris wears off.

From 18 March2003 on this bbs by me:
" Hubris is very ill-fitting at a time like this.
We should think of a few other possible outcomes to keep us focused:

He dies of old age as the tyrant of Iraq, outliving Bush 41 & Bush 43.

He dies as the leader of a newly unified Islamo-fascist empire stretching from Algeria to Indonesia.

He dies in his palacial estate while tending a garden in his province of New Jersey.

We are going to war. The first thing out the door in a war is the plan to win the war.
I think we will win. I think we will triumph. But we had better stop what is increasingly feeling like a complacent confidence. The armies we slaughtered so effectively are not choped liver. We killed their friends, comrades and family.
They are not without pride and we are invading their homeland.
As we have unfortunately seen around the world, the good will and common cause of 911 was easily manipulated by appeasers into the some of the strongest anti-American bigotry ever seen.
How much manipulation could be done to scared, desperate troops wearing Iraqi uniforms?
This war is not even started, much less won.
No war is a riskless laydown bet.
saddam knows this and is deperately betting on just this.
I am very hopeful our field commanders and staff planners know this as well.
If not, this war could be a quagmire to make us miss Vietnam.
That is saddam's true strategy, I'll wager.
