So who has more credibility, the Iraqis themselves or non-Iraqi Anti-American Muslims who know nothing about suffering under Saddam’s reign of terror?
Boston Globe:
Meanwhile in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, hundreds of Iraqi immigrants and Arab-Americans faced off across a main thoroughfare late on Monday in dueling protests.
Noisy chants including "Death to Saddam," and "One, Two, Three, Set Iraqis Free" clashed with shouts of "Stop the Bombing, Stop the War" as the two sides squared off outside Dearborn's City Hall.
A thin line of police separated the groups, of about 200 Iraqis on one side of Dearborn's Michigan Avenue, all of them apparent supporters of the war, and some 500 Arab- and Muslim-Americans on the other.
DETROIT ARABS DIVIDED
The Detroit metropolitan area is home to one of the largest concentrations of Arabs outside the Middle East. Like other Americans, they are divided over the war against an Arab state.
"We are against the brutal regime in Iraq but we are also against the regime in the United States," Osama Siblani, publisher of a Dearborn-based Arab-American newspaper, told the cheering anti-war protesters. He added that opponents of the war did not oppose U.S. troops but stressed that they were "fighting an immoral, unjust and unprovoked war."
Pro-war demonstrators, including several religious leaders from Dearborn's Shiite Muslim community, countered Siblani's remarks with harsh words for anyone opposing the invasion to oust Saddam. "Whatever it takes to remove Saddam let it be. We've got to fight this criminal," said Imam Husham Husainy.
