Dunno your timeling in-country for Vietnam, Richard, but likely the war there was already underway? The first step into a war must be decisive, even if it is a 60/40 guess. that's what we went into. the whole thing is a learning process.
We went in good, but we are getting better. Now, if our troops don't become too complacent, our overall casualties will remain low.
