a look at the facts

Let's see what's happened and what's NOT happened...

On the really good side...
1. We are 50 miles from Baghdad with casualities in the Tens of soldiers. Amazing.
2. Despite Turkey throwing a spanner in the works, we have the North secured via airborne & Kurds..
3. In the North we utterly destroyed a major terrorist training facility.
4. The West is secured under US control using a MINIMUM of troops, the military style I've written about here previously. We have control of all those airfields.
5. We have secured Iraq's seaport INTACT and have been using it for resupply and humanitarian aid.
6. The oil field destruction weas prevented and the Southern fields secured INTACT averting a major environmental and ecological disaster.
7. Patriot missiles and special ops missile hunters have stopped any attack on Israel and limited the damage to Kuwait.
8. We now can much more clearly see who our friends and enemies are, nations and individuals.

On the un-good side...
1. The massive surrender of Iraqi troops hoped for and schemed for has not happened
2. The populace is still cowed by decades of secret police terror and has not trusted the coalition to REALLY disarm the Bathist murderers in their midst. Pretty pragmatic to me.
3. Killing or injuring the top guys (if we did...my guess is yes) has not enticed other replacement leaders to surrender. I think it's cause there are dozens of military officers who know that even if they surrender they will get nailed for war crimes against the Iraqui populace over tyhe last several years.
4. As always, the Air Force shock & awe types still don't realize that it's the grunts that win the wars
5. Iraqi bad guys continue to blow away their own people to achieve tactical gains. None of us with any connection to reality should be surprised by this expected behaviour.
6. The Arab street hates us. Gosh, THAT'S a shock!
