The latest data plotted on my crude graph:

A crude graph of SARS over the past couple of weeks. Each * = 50 cases, each x = 5 deaths. First data from March 17.

It would appear that the jump in cases arounf Mar. 26 was followed by a jump in deaths about a week later. Mar 25 there were about 500 cases, the 78 deaths to date seem to be from those cases, so a mortality rate of about 15%.

The reported mortality rate (I've seen 2 - 3 - and 4%) seems to be taking the current number of deaths compared to the current number of reported cases, but that's not logical - it doesn't kill right away.

There seems to be a wide variation in the virulence in different areas... so far no reported deaths in the US with 78 cases, but in Toronto where there were only about 10 cases a week or so ago, 6 people have died to date.

I hope it can be contained, but I doubt it.

Not hodling my breath for a cure in the near future either.
