And winning the peace?

After the war, there's the need to win the peace.
But that will depend on how Iraqis see the US arrival (a liberation or an invasion?) and how diplomacy will evolve. I wonder.
Also, Saddam's regime is like Stalin's: a personality cult. Will the iraqis accept anyone else, especially after forcefully removing the dictator?
Patriotism works in the US, but also in Iraq, expecially if a foreign army brings chaos in their livelyhood. Saddam terrorized his own people, but nevertheless, most Iraqis never really felt the threat from their own regime as they only want to mind their own business.
Here's an interesting opinion (largely shared, over here)
Regarding the report "French oppose war but hope America wins" (April 10): Who should win the war in Iraq? Tough question - not one that can be answered by a yes-or-no poll. Like most French people, I like America and Americans a lot, which means I don't want them to lose. On the other hand, I would love to see George W. Bush fall flat on his face for starting an immoral war, for lying to Americans and to the world and because he tried to impose his views on the world with gangster-style bribery and blackmail.
.
I have the same ambivalent feelings about the other side: I don't want Iraqi people to lose because they have suffered too much already and because they have been attacked for no reason. On the other hand, I would love to see Saddam disappear because he is a murderous thug.
.
So, what do I really wish for in Iraq? I wish that Bush is impeached, that Saddam disappears and that the American and Iraqi people reconcile in a huge love fest.
