I would like to see as many as possible of the war criminals brought to formal trial and convicted by legal means. Executions should follow convictions where appropriate. Hopefully lots of them.
It is certainly tempting to turn them over to the Iraqi people for quick justice, and one hopes that a large number of them put up an armed fight to allow us to whittle the numbers down before the trial phase, but it is essential that we distinguish to the Iraqis our way of doing things from the way tyrants do things.
We have to show them our way works.
