11 civilians in eastern Afghanistan have been killed in a bombing carried out by the U.S. led-coalition based there.

A statement was issued by a U.S. military spokesman at the Bagram Press Center, which said, "Eleven Afghan civilians were killed and one was wounded early this morning, when a bomb dropped by coalition aircraft landed in a house on the outskirts of Shkin near the Pakistan border.

The statement was made by Douglas Lefforge, U.S. military spokesman at Bagram air base north of Kabul. "The tragic incident occured when enemy forces attacked an Afghan military post checkpoint that was providing security, near the Shkin firebase just before midnight last night," he said. "Coalition forces never intentionally target civilian locations."
