SARS has now been reported in 19 countries, on all continents (except Antarctica).
WHO reports 2781 total cases, with 1337 having recovered and 111 having died. A reasonable mortality rate seems to me would be the number of deaths divided by (the total of recovered plus deaths); this yields a rate of 7.7%.
Reported rates of 4% are using the number of deaths divided by the total number of cases.
