A technical point
The snake handler didn't "autodarwinate", unfortunately, because he's already reproduced (articles refer to his "children"). As did his father before him. Its stubborn persistance suggests that this could be a mutation that doesn't express itself until relatively late in life, and so it slips under the radar of natural selection, which is based entirely on living long enough to reproduce.
