Re: No evidence

You are right that I have no evidence for this, but I do have a brain.

If you are in an empty room with a bed, and you know the cat is in the room, it is reasonable to assume it may be under the bed, even though you have no actual evidence for this. There is ferocious fighting going on to defend this border town.

Okay, admittedly the analogy is not quite correct. WMD could still be many places in Iraq. There are a lot of beds in the room.

How did Saddam originally hope this was all going to work out? I would think that his "Plan A" was to stymie a military invasion using political pressure from his allies and the useful idiots, and then "give in" to years of tedious inspections from the U.N.

Under these circumstances, it was necessary to hide any contraband in a way that years of inspections would not reveal it. He had several years to plan this. It is not surprising that a week or two of investigation hasn't turned up anything yet. I would bet that unless we can turn up someone who knows where the paydirt is, we may never find it. And unless Saddam is an idiot, the number of such people (still breathing) with such information is quite small.

That same brain tells me that these people would have been among the first to flee the country, which is why getting those Iraqis out of Syria is even more important.
