The raw frustration of the Left at the success so far of the Iraq Freedom operation is leaking out from all the usual sources...one or two of them on this board. Oh, they're happy enough to see Saddam go, now that someone's actually done it, but the prospect of a political victory by George Bush sours it beyond endurance.
As the San Jose Mercury News admitted (and they deserve credit for doing it,) almost every dire prediction made by the antiwar elements was dead wrong.
I posted (I can't find it now) the ten "bets" listed by the Mercury News on March 19 that would have to pay off in Iraq for Bush to succeed. While there are still a few items outstanding, so far everything has broken in Bush's favor.
Of course, they were dead wrong on Afghanistan, Gulf War I, and the Cold War too, but who's counting?
Oh, the Left is trying. Every Iraqi riot, screwup, needless death, or other possible disaster is plucked from the news and cradled like a lost child. Maybe THIS will be Bush's downfall. But it isn't enough.
If I can make a suggestion to all the owly leftists out there:
Forget Iraq, and foreign policy, and go for the economy. You might have a chance...it's possible the tax cut might be strangled in the crib, and the economy as a result may remain stagnant until 2004. Oh, you thought the Democrats were actually worried about the tax cut because of deficits?
You still have a chance to eviscerate any domestic agenda Bush has. Wreck his economic growth plans! Crap on his judicial nominees! The possibilities are endless! Iraq? Never heard of it.
Slap the bumper sticker on your car: "Remember '92!"
Have a nice latte' and relax.
And hope to God Bush doesn't have the kind of balls on domestic policies as he did on foreign ones.
Suggestion for the Left....let it go
