But you nailed the France paradigm. I agree with the premise that France (its leaders) know its doomed as a stand alone state. Its demographics, an aging populace with strong welfare state needs, powerful agricultural lobby, strong unions and consequent labor restrictions doom it. So, aggregating oneself into a wider EU temporarily forstalls the looming disaster. A good move for France and mini-me, Belgium. Not so good a move for more vibrant Euro countries.
