This is not good. In a few years, Nigeria could be engulfed in a bloody religious civil war, with an Islamic fundamentalist North battling a deeply corrupt Christian-dominated South.

International election monitors reported widespread fraud and intimidation in Nigeria’s presidential election.

In a country with a rising level of religious based strife (northern Muslims vs. Southern Christians and animists) the Muslim candidate from the North has apparently been cheated out of winning the Presidential election. Or, at the very least, the actual results should have been a lot closer than what the Nigerian election commission claimed. This is extremely dangerous as it just serves to fan the flames of Islamic fundamentalism already burning in the North.

A simple question to consider – in a country where it’s a known fact that 50% of the population, and the voting age population, are Muslim, and it’s also well established that the only serious Muslim candidate – Buhari – has overwhelming support from the Muslim community in Nigeria (even more solidly than Obasanjo’s support from the Christian community), is it credible for Obasanjo to have beaten Buhari by a 62-32 margin??
