I saw a Nova special on TV about a month back about a bomber that had crashed in Siberia north of Japan during WWII, part of a mission based out of Alaska. The show was about finding and investigating the old crash site.
The military assisted, and it came up in the narration that the military spends about $100 million a year bringing home the remains of servicemen from around the world.
