Cubans were fleeing Cuba long before America tried to intervene and end his burgeoning dictatorship.
Castro declared himself a pro-Soviet communist and began to steal assets of the Cuban people and foreignors before US policy became anti-Castro.
He is an old, apparently sick man now, and maybe he can't keep kidding himself that the net result of his rule over the Cuban people has been utter disaster and repression...so he does what every leftist seems to do when the going gets tough: blame America.
