6 % unemployment used to be considered full employment prior to welfare reform. Just heard a Dem Candidate scream about 6 % unemployment and falsely claim we didn't have it during the Clinton Administration. It most certainly was. When it first went below 6 % the Fed considered putting on the breaks but waited based on other indicators indicating low inflation.
Reminder for Both. We didn't need tax cuts or jobs programs to come out of the last recession. Low rates alone did it and the low rate environment resulted in one of the strongest periods of strong growth and low inflation in history as well as surpluses and reductions in the national debt. What is wrong with you people that you can't learn from history and the man given most of the credit for that economy. Greenspan spoke out against Bush's first tax cut as inflationary until the economy turned south and has stated cuts are only desirable if offset in a way to avoid increasing deficits. The point is we need to keep deficits and interest rates low to return to the 90s boom conditions.
Note for Democrats. We didn't have 911 to focus public attention on security when Clinton beat Bush on the economy. You better pay attention to the difference or risk getting waxed like Dukakis or Mondale this time around.

Mark
