Actually, I followed a Lada Niva on the highway just yesterday. It was motoring along at 100 Kmh, no smoke, no parts falling off, no rust.
But this is beside the point. If Russia wants to be internationally competitive - and it desperately does - it will develop the necessary QC. It's not magic. QC, good or bad, isn't a racial trait.
And regarding Chernobyl, it was a combination of poor engineering, poor building, and poor operation.
Does the name "Bhopal" ring a bell?
