Agreed. In fact, I pointed this out myself.
Unfortunately, politics tends to attract people who honestly believe that other people need to be controlled "for their own good." Neither party has a monopoly on this, although they tend to concentrate on different areas. Statist conservatives focus on legal control of moral behavior. Statist liberals focus on centralized control of economic behavior. There is some overlap, of course.
It's one reason it is essential to limit the power of government.
