Anyone can file suite for anything, no matter how stupid. There is no recourse to avoid court action. Therefore, anybody without deep pockets can be effectively silenced by precisely the kind of legal falderal that William Morris used.

In other words, no matter how you criticize somebody with money, even by throwing his exact words back at him, you can be harrassed and caused to spend money that you do not have to defend yourself in court.

The lawyers even have a name for this kind of lawsuit: SLAPP Suit Leveled Against Public Participation.
