Hmm, currently looking at a BBC 2 program called "war spin" (about how the coalition used the press to win favor of public opinion.
Apparently, the Iraqi army had left the hospital where Jessica Lynch was kept 24 hours before the US army "rescued" her. There were no shootings coming from the hospital and she was not shot at but treated for injuries sustained during a road traffic accident. The BBC journalists went to the Pentagon to ask to view the entire video of her rescue (not just the edited 5 minutes long version) but were not authorized to do so.
I wonder if investigative journalists will also produce reports about the war in Iraq, in the US.

Why doesn't the BBC take advertising?

Because this keeps the BBC independent of advertisers and other commercial pressures. The BBC's Governors ensure instead that it is run in the general public interest. They are accountable for the BBC's independence, and also ensure that it reflects British culture and minority interests.
