Concorde completes final flight

This is symbolic of far more than just a close to supersonic commercial traffic. It is evidence of a desire to recede and retreat from technology.

The offer by Branson of Virgin Airlines to purchase one or more of the planes was rejected and shows how petty British Airways and the French have become - if we can't afford to fly it, we don't want anyone else showing us up.

The desire to retreat from space after the Columbia tragedy is another manifestation. The protesters at the G8 summit who despise technology, capitalism and progress are yet another.

Enforcing mediocrity.

That is what is we are seeing.

Let me explain.

In the past inventors, geniuses and the scientific establishment were a minority of the population but were not so outnumbered as to have to fight through hordes of mediocrity to get their inventions developed and pursued.

Capitalists like Westinghouse, who made a fortune on the rail air brake, invested their money back into the work of geniuses such as Tesla and his alternating current method. Edison and Ford also reinvested in technology and despite their ruthless streaks accomplished much and helped make manifest the modern world we live in.

Population growth and the dumbing down of the hordes of children that pass through the schools of the world have led to an era of kids who believe they are enlightened when they THWART not create, when they DESTROY not build and when they support SOCIALISM over capitalism.

These traits have led to the retrogression we see in europe and to a greater degree our colleges and universities which are supposed to be spawning grounds for our new inventors and creators.

Science and commerce go hand in hand. The unwashed masses see no value in advanced science even though they live in its grace daily.

Enforced mediocrity.

That is the result of burgeoning populations in the third world and their unintended influence on the west. They can't be blamed for this though - only our brightest minds can be held responsible. The geniuses of this new era must reach even greater heights and overcome even greater obstacles to reshape the world and keep progress from becoming obsolete.

It isn't too difficult to envision a world of 2450 - a world where the population is 35,000,000,000.

In this world the lifespan is 35 - in the "good" areas. America and Europe have long ago been overrun and their governments are as temporal as the third worlds. Crime is a way of life. Electricity is for a very few enclaves which are run like territories. The nuclear threat is gone - primarily because the old weapons are rusted hulks and their is no one alive intelligent enough to build a new one.

The sun has increased its output and the entire equatorial region is 105 degrees. Simultaneously the poles are more extreme as well forcing people to swarm in narrow bands. Property ownership is enforced in much the same way as in the old west. People speak a broken language - a mix of Arabic/Spanish/Chinese called Araspach.

All this because a few minds could not overcome the obstacles set before them and were not as well equipped as their ancestors for making manifest the coherency of their minds into the physical world.

Well, time will tell if this can be averted. Of course, there are many in the world to whom would find this an attractive outcome.
