WASHINGTON
Current and former FBI agents say the bureau's failure to pursue suspected terrorists has resulted in American deaths.
Special Agent Robert Wright and former special agent John Vincent, who worked together in the Chicago FBI office, offered details of their allegations at a Washington, D.C., news conference.
Wright says the FBI's international terrorism unit refused to pursue a suspect he had linked to funding for terrorism. The same suspect was identified after the Sept. 11 attacks four years later as a financier for Osama bin Laden.
Wright charges that intelligence agents deliberately shield suspects from prosecution for "job security," allowing them to continue their investigations and avoid new work.
The agents claim the FBI has tried to cover up its failures by falsely claiming the information was classified.
