Here are some insider pics taken by some brother AMMO! troops of mine.
The Afghan gallery has no pics...
The Iraq gallery starts off with some pics that are modern versions of Air Force jokes referencing the Air Force's high quality of living standards for its troops. In Desert Storm, the running joke was a series of drawings... the first was of a Marine (Bless Em!) saying "Man, it sucks over here!" in a foxhole with bullets flying over his head. The next pic was an Army Grunt (Bless Em!) carrying a 150 lb pack across the desert, sweating his ass off, saying, "Man, it really sucks over here..." The next pic was a Navy Squid (Bless Em!) sweatin' his ass off in the steam of a catapult launch, launching jets in the gulf saying, "MAN! It SUCKS here!". The next pic was an Air Force AMMO troop (The Good Lord Blesseth!) in a recliner with a fan, in front of cable TV saying, "WHAT!?! The AC is broken?!? Man, it REALLY SUCKS over here!!"
The series continues with serious pics of a Pope AFB A-10 with some damage. Phase (Structural Maintenance) loved that, I'm sure. The last pic is an up-close image of one of the wing hard points. Not sure what the pic is emphasizing, but you can note the lug mounts that the munitions hook to (big thing, lower right) and the plugs for the gas grain generator ports for dispensing the munitions (just upper right of that).
The Kuwait Gallery showcases the Big Ass MOAB. The trailer she's sittin' on is a 40 foot flatbed, about 35 feet long from the back end to where the gooseneck begins, so that gives you some scale of the bomb itself.
Then there are some pics of AMMO troops, none of whom I know, all of which I love! The IYAAYAS in the pic with the banner is our motto..."If You Aint AMMO, You Ain't Shit!" The Navy Weapons version stands for "If Your A** Aches, Your A Sailor!"... heh heh heh.... The PS reference in the signs stands for Prince Sultan Air Base. PS is in Saudi, dunno why the pics are under Kuwait. Then a few shots of some lady getting in the way of the AMMO troops. (I was stationed with the last guy to the right on his knees back in 94 in Guam. He once hand-built a whole chain mail suit of armor from coat-hanger gauge wire.)
The pics in the Saudi gallery show an untypically clear Saudi sunset, then Gen Tommy Franks with some troops. The next two pics are of a rock some AMMO Storage and Handling troops (Bless Em!) decided to use as an X MARKS THE SPOT in case Saddam got good all of a sudden. The last pic is of an anonymous AMMO troop (Bless EM!) humping bombs the AMMO way. (You thought we always used trailers???)
Just thought some of ya might be interested in some behind the scenes pics of the last war, especially since these guys are THE troops that make, store, build, test, hump, maintain, inspect, ship, receive and line deliver all those bombs and missiles to the ramp for each sortie. You wanna kill someone or blow something up with a Jet, these troops are the ones to ask.
