re: White Rock -> Red Rock - varnished rock?
Christensen says White Rock is "bright" because it is either mantled by thin ferric-rich aeolian dust deposits or consists of weathered or coated ferric materials? How would that make it brighter than material within the crater? Seems if wind is responsible for matling White Rock with dust, that the entire crater would be the same color. I don't buy it. Sure White Rock has enough dust on it to obscure any useful spectra to differentiate it from the crater it resides in. This is the same reason we don't know for sure what the rocks are made of -- they are all covered by dust and perhaps even rock varnish coatings.
