Authorities seized a note to Noster:

"Hi John, well here it is ... the first of many issues of homesland. As I find other areas I will mail them to you. Hope you get a chance to come up and visit, we need some excitement around here, you know, like bomb threats or something .... Hope to hear from you soon, Lance."

Investigators also found a list of apparent book titles including:

LOS ANGELES, Ca. -- MSNBC
Authorities revealed Wednesday that they have been investigating a now-imprisoned man who allegedly collected semiautomatic assault weapons, ammunition, pipe bombs and barrels of jet fuel and appeared to be planning to attack an unknown building.

There have been no charges filed involving the materials but the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is investigating, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials told a headquarters press conference. Calls seeking comment from the ATF and FBI were not immediately returned.

The man, John Noster, 38, is currently in prison for vehicle theft and has refused to talk to investigators, sheriff's Sgt. John Demooy said.

Noster had traveled back and forth across the country in a pickup with a camper shell after leaving a Los Angeles sporting goods firm where he worked, investigators said. They placed him in Texas, Arkansas and Oregon.

Noster worked for Easton Sports, which makes aluminum bats, hockey gear and bicycle frames, until he voluntarily left in November 2000, said John Cramer, vice president and general counsel.

He was a corporate accountant, Easton officials said.
