Splinx's non-standard characters

I can't find the post you're talking about this time (Justin might've deleted it because of the problem), but it's a safe bet that it's a phenomenon I've noticed before. Splinx and a few others have taken up the affectation of using non-ASCII characters in their subject lines. Splinx probably used the "oersted"--he does that a lot to indicate what mere mortals mean by "n/t". For some reason, the browser chokes on that character just prior to the end A tag, and it thoroughly fubars the link. Instead of the message, you get a blank page.

I haven't figured out what to do about it. It's computationally expensive to scan each character in the subject line looking for characters whose numeric value is above 127, and I'd rather not was computer cycles. OTOH, if the browser chokes, maybe I have no choice.

Anyway, I've noted the problem, and I'd request that people not use those characters (anything you have to hold down Alt and type on the numeric keypad) for now.
