re: Rationale

Good morning. American and coalition forces have begun a concerted campaign against the regime of Saddam Hussein. In this war, our coalition is broad, more than 40 countries from across the globe. Our cause is just, the security of the nations we serve and the peace of the world.

And our mission is clear, to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, to end Saddam Hussein's support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people.

The single purpose behind all the WMD flap in the press and elsewhere is the destruction of George W. Bush. If we had found nuclear bomb factories in Iraq, but no mass graves, the press would be bitching about Bush "lying" about the mass graves.

Do you honestly think that the Left would be cutting Bush any more slack if his primary rationale had been to stop a potential Hitler before he attacked his neighbors (again)?

Ironically, Clinton went into eastern Europe on the strength of intelligence reports of widespread genocide and mass graves. While the atrocities and murders actually committed were bad enough, the hundreds of thousands supposedly massacred there did not materialize. Can we all say, "hyped the intelligence?" I somehow missed the many headlines in the New York Times wondering where the hell all the mass graves were.
