NASA wants to fly the Shuttle by around Dec. 18th, 2003:

Since the United Kingdom's relatively very economical Beagle 2 Mission is scheduled to reach Mars in late December, would it not seem that NASA desperately wants to steal the spotlight from that otherwise discomforting accomplishment by grabbing the headlines beforehand?
