Of all the team sports, baseball is the least open to regimentation and indoctrination. Kids used to organize themselves into sandlot teams, without adults supervision, and each kid played and explored all the positions until THEY decided which one they were most adept at. Baseball is a team sport, but it also rewards individual excellence without subordinating most players into supporting roles. Today, all the fields in the parks are taken over by Little Leaguers, in uniform, with their obnoxious parents cheering them on.
It's no coincidence liberals prefer baseball while conservatives love football. 8)
