On the other hand people are making good progress with storage devices that are getting down to the molecular level. If they succeed in that area it will make the nanobots more likely as many of the problems are similar. Th argument that life does essentially what nanobots do when it manipulates genes seens a fair comment. It may well be that the field will merge with genetic engineering.
