"Between 1946 and today there are, after all, too many books, academic departments, careers, reporters, and anchormen who have institutionalized notions of moral equivalence, multiculturalism, and Western pathology from a safe and comfortable distance. But all that pessimism and self-doubt does not mean that we are failing, or that we should cease our present efforts"
I'll take this one statement and attempt to explain in greater detail what I believe has occurred. Though this issue really deserves a whole book to describe I'll do my best to condense it into a few key points.
In 1945, the death of Franklin Roosevelt our wartime president and a man revered by many working class Americans, who appreciated the handouts in a time of economic turmoil, put Harry Truman in Office by default. Truman was a mafia type stooge - the puppet of mid-western crime syndicates and 'sleazebag' types. He was unelectable under conventional circumstances and played the Roosevelt sympathy card to re-election. The reality is all the newspapers knew he was unelectable, knew his criminal ties and thoroughly detested the man. Dewey the former Attorney General was a law and order type who seemed a natural to win over the sleazy Truman. Truman's victory was cooked in middle America much as was Kennedy's. This event changed the course of history - and set the ground for the sliding values and political corruption which is now the norm rather than the exception.
The war had brought a lot of crime and disrepair to the streets of America. Able bodied men had died in large numbers. Small towns were left with women and children and houses were unpainted, police forces undermanned and petty crimes and the mafia controlled black markets flourished. This environment put America on edge. A crime-puppet President, a depressed economy and the re-conversion of wartime industries back into civilian roles had scattered to dust the visions of the early 20th century generation of elitists - who were convinced that a new utopia awaited at the end of the war. The wartime ads by Union Carbide, BUDD and RCA, probably best symbolize this postwar vision of utopia achieved through technology and American ingenuity, yet almost all ads of the period tended towards this promise of a light at the end of the tunnel.
So when Truman, who was well at home with deception, lies and treachery started the CIA via the National Security Act in 1947 it was an omen of things to come. Instead of a utopia we had to deal with massive communist infiltration and the tearing down of capitalist mores and values.
The close of the war and the disaffection of many young elitists, whose fathers had wholeheartedly embraced capitalism and hard work as the tools of American success, seduced a large number into the ranks of burgeoning communist organizations.
This isn't really much of a surprise. Youth always seeks to rebel and their parents had rebelled against the Victorian attitudes of their grandparents. Embracing socialism seemed very sophisticated and worldly and is still depicted so to this day. Disaffected young will embrace anything to distance themselves from their parents. The new professors and postwar generation of educators were very often holding communist affiliation and this 'utopian communist' society which was promised as an entitlement for all was much more attractive than the hard work and toil version of success touted by the century's earliest over-achievers.
After having a taste of unconstitutional entitlements pushed through by Roosevelt, namely Social Security and the minimum wage - the whole capitalist system was unhinged and corrupted.
If these could be pushed through the communists were heartened that America was ripe for plucking. Stalin spent millions to the cause of US subversion as well as millions more for South America. A new war was being waged - a war against capitalism. Socialistic educators wanted subsidizing (which later came as a gift from Carter with the DOE) and created a laundry list of subversive entitlements to push for.
This set the tone for the moral equivalence, union empowerment, consumerism in lieu of capitalism and a weak leftist educational system. Pure capitalism was given a severe one-two punch. US Capitalism has been severely corrupted. Unintentionally the socialists have facilitated monopolists such as the oil companies by institutionalizing the minimum wage which put out of business all sorts of small businesses that could compete with and keep monopolists in check. The rising altar of multiculturalism, social charity at the expense of border controls and equally undermining the effort to bring wealth to the world. The rise of Mexifornia has undermined the allure of the Golden State and destroyed the future potential of the nation's most productive state, turning it into a entitlement and empowerment zone which will eventually force the state to become a large leftist slum.
Yes, America's destiny has been perverted and corrupted. The constitution undermined and dismissed. Pure constitutional law devotees such as Clarence Thomas are despised while ones who use the constitution as toilet paper are worshipped and lauded. The anchormen of today and the journalists opf tomorrow are being indoctrinated by the weak leftist system which still flails and thrashes around like a floundering fish on the shores of the false interpretation of universal equality.
It is this entitlement, socialist mentality which perverts the human spirit in fake sweetness and justice while really promoting injustice, crime and corruption. It is ignorance unrecognized by these socialists who genuinely wish to believe they deserve the entitlements and the handouts and because they believe everyone should receive them too are entitled to even more - a position handing out entitlements and a little bit more because of their "enlightenment".
This is the disease which if left unrecognized and untreated will destroy what is left of the best of the American dream.
