"On Jan. 28, 2003, President Bush said in his State of the Union Address: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." [State of the Union, Jan. 28, 2003, pg. 7] Yet, according to news reports, the CIA knew that this claim was false as early as March 2002. In addition, the International Atomic Energy Agency has since discredited this allegation."

Complete remarks by Sen. Byrd delivered on the U.S. Senate floor on June 24, 2003: The Road To Coverup Is The Road To Ruin.
At the risk of being redundant, please allow me to underline what Sen. Byrd stated on the Senate floor recently: President Bush used information known to be false in his State of the Union Address.
In plain language, Pres. Bush lied to the American people while making his annual report.
And make no mistake about it: by no stretch of the imagination was this an honest mistake. No, the documents in question were so patently bogus that they were immediately dismissed as crude and obvious forgeries when examined by experts. Even the CIA had known for almost a year that the documents, to use the term loosely, were phoney, yet President George Herbert Walker Bush held these same crappy forgeries up to the American people as proof of Iraq's quest to get the bomb.
I'd like to be able to tell you that it doesn't get much worse than this, but unfortuntely, it does.
