I registered last year for the Colorado Do Not Call List

so I'm automatically covered on the federal list. Since our program went active, I'd guess the number of telemarketer calls to my home dropped over 90%. The only ones we get now are the recorded ones that don't give you the opportunity to tell them they're breaking the law. I've been tempted to hold on long enough to get their phone numbers so I can report them, but screw it.

Only once have I received a telemarketer call that wasn't a total waste of time. Back in 1990 when I was stationed on Shemya, Alaska (a tiny island 1200 miles out on the Aleutian chain from Anchorage), I was a crew commander and had a phone in my room. One day while I was sleeping off a mid shift, the phone rang (very rare). The caller was from MCI and wanted to know about my long distance needs. It was so funny that I actually talked to the guy. He had no idea where on Earth I was located (or that I made all my long distance calls for free).
