<a href="http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/jupiterlike_planet_030703.html> Jupiter Like Planet in nearly circular orbit at about 3AU. Closest thing to our solar systems configuration yet. Article notes that an Earthlike world would be stable inside its orbit, but once again the formation issue is overlooked. The difference between Mars and Jupiter is over 3 AU yet Jupiter is thought to have inhibited Mars Growth by accelerating nearbye planetoids to speeds more likely to cause disintigration than accumulation. This planet is at least 2 times heavier than Jupiter.
1 out of over a hundred and still not close enough. Folks until we find Jupiter like planets farther from a star than the asteroid belt is wide there isn't likely to be an Earthlike planet in that system. Can anyone estimate the impact of planetary mass on the width of the asteroid belt it is likely to cause?
