re: Geek Test

The creator of the site and test is a member of this organization. She is a woman named Yvette Beaudoin and is French-Canadian.

She hails from the Ohio region and attends Renaissance fairs and is really into genealogy. (Thats where the renaissance fair question came from and why the big bonus for being a female geek)

There should be a big bonus for being able to know how to find that stuff out.

I was unsure whether to be saddened or pleased to find that my geek factor was 19.13215% - Geek.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) the whole roleplaying & gaming bit and lots of that type of stuff has been completely vacant from my life. They should differentiate more between stuff that belongs on a "geek" test or that which belongs on a "spaz" test. There is a subtle yet very measurable difference. The folks who roleplayed were not real heavy into science as I recall or any other academic pursuits. Likewise the folks who could define nuclear fission were not big roleplayers or gamers. There is a whole fantasy, medieval era obsession that qualifies as a test of its own and which Yvette weighted too heavily into her test. I am also real weak on the recent TV stuff, though I did pretty well on the movies since it was slanted towards someone older than 30. Having only watched Star Trek and TNG and no series newer than those was a handicap. However, if it were more inclusive of books and on books owned other than roleplaying and gaming books or deeper into history and science knowledge I am sure I would score much higher. This test was also weighted towards a certain age group (heavy on geek elements and events of the early eighties) and will not accurately render geek rankings for folks much older than 40 or younger than 25.

It is mildly entertaining though.
