Space/Science » in reply to Geologic setting and origin of Terra Meridiani hematite deposit on Mars

"This suggests that Martian hamatite formed by a different mechanism than terrestrial BIF."

No shit, jake.

The hematite deposits are on Mars, where the active working "fluid" for Martian regolithic processes has been DEMONSTRATED AS FACT by Hoffman to be C02, through his discovery of an image showing active CO2 clathrate outgassing.

When are you people going to stop wasting money looking for massive water processes? The source for the Fe is asteroid impact, and a water based concentration mechanism is not needed, as there are large buried craters nearby. The small amount of water necessary to build the layered structure is conveniently provided processes triggered along the larger channels.

Note the layers, and then note the activity cycle - more than likely, it is chaotically roughly 26 million years per layer, each layer formed when impact releases large amounts of CO2 and water from the Martian clathrates, which then interact with local structures.

Nonetheless, a nice paper, with all the information present to demonstrate a proper formation mechanism.
