A great landscape that looks like Mars is in Tenerife, mount Teide (a volcano). An observatory is in its vicinity and I've been there in 1996 and 1997. I never saw such a fantastic sky (-7Â°C while it's 27Â°C on the surface during the day): M31 had a blueish elliptic shape around its center.
