The recession is officially defined by GDP.
It can end or begin again without the unemployment rate or industrial production being affected.
GDP also includes "product" from financial activity; stocks, bonds, insurance, banking, etc. I don't consider that the same as goods and services. Money made as interest and collateral on loans is not really wealth. I'm not even sure it exists at all. It's just IOUs; especially the way everything is leveraged to the wazoo these days. The entire financial system is totally divorced from reality, what with derivatives, bundling and all the other nonsense that goes on. They're all just selling each other pizza.
