David Broder says Bush is doomed. Surely the dreaded Sixteen Words will be his downfall!
Aside from proving beyond doubt that the mainstream media is pullling out all stops in its attempts to destroy Bush, there isn't anything really there.
It's beginning to look to me like the Left is trying to recreate its greatest victory: the fall of Vietnam. I was in college then, and the leftists I knew were almost orgasmic at the humiliation of America and the triumph of communism. There were actual cheers at the fleeing people, and helicopters being shoved off carrier decks. Yet another observation that helped develop my politics.
The old lefties, I'm sure, now have visions of American pulling out in humiliation from Iraq. The horror that would then be faced by the 20 million Iraqis is completely irrelevant to them compared to gaining power again in America. They didn't give a rat's ass about the Vietnamese people back then either.
The "Vietnam" tactics of the Left are the same, too. Trumpet American casualties, on a day to day basis. Spike the success stories, and headline the problems and failures. Paint the Americans as oppressors. Repeat again and again: "Failure. Failure. Failure."
Same old, same old.
