I could probably buy a car with the depreciation of the last five I have owned. I never use them as much as I would like to and they end up collecting dust somewhere. I can't bring myself to discard them after so much has been invested and have given them to family and friends who could use them.
The DVD burner is another example of a waste of laptop space and justifying knocking up the price another 500 bucks. How many folks are going to burn DVDs on the run instead of at their desktop?
Laptops also are a bad idea in the desert unless you get some milspec cooling accessories. The other day the digital car thermometer read an interior temp of 150 degrees after it had been left in the sun for an afternoon. Leaving a laptop in your vehicle or trunk in this weather is like taking it and driving over it. The screens get all screwed up.
"Let this be your last laptop." That is what I told myself upon the last purchase and until they come out with some astounding , revolutionary advances in laptop performance and design - it will be.

I've lost so much in depreciation on laptops...
