Asteroid Hunters Discover Near-Earth Object With New Camera

"We expect the new camera to increase the efficiency of detection of near-Earth asteroids by some 3 to 4 times that of the camera it replaced. This will make a major contribution to NASA's goal of discovering more than 90 percent of near-Earth objects that are greater that 1 kilometer (.62 mile) in diameter by 2008."

Ground based detection technology continues to improve. Even LONEOS' mere <a href=http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/missions/loneos.html">; 0.6m (about 24") scope is making significant discoveries with advances in technology. There is no conflict between Mars and asteroids. They are different orders of magnitude in expense. We can and should pursue both.

Sorry folks but I have no news on LSST or PAN-STARRS beyond the links on this Febuary post. Perhaps Alex can comment now since he didn't earlier.

Regards,
Mark
