re: White House aide pushed for it over the CIA aide's objections . . .

And? The CIA aide is the boss' aide, not the boss. Choosing to add or delete lines from speeches remains up to the president.

Again:
The British government has learnt that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

Tony Blair is standing by it.

What that means is that the British government has learnt that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.

Choosing to add it to the state of the union address is a president's prerogative. Retracting the statement is also the president's prerogative. There is neither lie, nor deceit in the statement. Even if the British government changes their tune somewhere down the line, the statement remains factual. It is a clear statement of pure fact, one the democrats appear to be hinging a future presidency on -- and losing, with a flaming plummet to oblivion.
