Just for fun...
Quotes from State of the Union addresses:
Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade, and much of his nation's wealth, not on providing for the Iraqi people, but on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them.
The United Nations weapons inspectors have done a truly remarkable job, finding and destroying more of Iraq's arsenal than was destroyed during the entire gulf war. Now, Saddam Hussein wants to stop them from completing their mission.
I know I speak for everyone in this chamber, Republicans and Democrats, when I say to Saddam Hussein, "You cannot defy the will of the world," and when I say to him, "You have used weapons of mass destruction before; we are determined to deny you the capacity to use them again." (1)
For nearly a decade, Iraq has defied its obligations to destroy its weapons of terror and the missiles to deliver them.
America will continue to contain [Iraqi President] Saddam [Hussein] and we will work for the day when Iraq has a government worthy of its people. Now, last month, in our action over Iraq, our troops were superb. Their mission was so flawlessly executed, that we risk taking for granted the bravery and skill it required. Captain Jeff Taliaferro, a 10-year Air Force veteran of the Air Force, flew a B-1B bomber over Iraq as we attacked Saddam's war machine. He is here with us tonight. I would like to ask you to honor him and all the 33,000 men and women of Operation Desert Fox. (2)

Since it has been firmly established by many people, including a few here on this board, that Saddam Hussein never posed a threat to the United States, and, after the inspectors were tossed out in 1998, never possessed any weapons of mass destruction, no methods of producing them, and not the slightest intents of ever producing them ever again;
then Bill Clinton must have lied in not one, but two State of the Union addresses!
Extra bonus Dec. 1998 Clinton speech here.
President Clinton ordered air strikes Dec. 16 against Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors. Warships and combat aircraft began bombarding the defiant Gulf state at 5 p.m. EST - 1 a.m. in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital.
"The international community gave Saddam one last chance to resume cooperation with the weapons inspectors," Clinton said. "Saddam has failed to seize the chance. So we had to act and act now."
Less than an hour after American and British forces launched Operation Desert Fox, the president addressed the nation to explain his decision. He said the attack was designed to protect the national interests of the United States and the interests of people throughout the Middle East and around the world.
"Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons," Clinton said. The Iraqi dictator has used these weapons against his neighbors and his own people, he said, and "left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will use these terrible weapons again."
Another lie! Saddam possessed no such weapons! I have been assured of this!
Now, of course, this is all just for fun. I would venture that Clinton probably believed these statements. For that matter, in my opinion, the statements were true. And of course how Clinton behaved is irrelevant to how Bush behaves. Davin is right about that.
However, the silence back then from the millions of marchers, the Hollywood elite, the academics, the liberal press around the world, and the great mass of the Left across the planet, is relevant. Very relevant.
Oh, there were some people of consistent principle. On this board, certainly. People who railed against Clinton's bombings as much as Bush's. Heck, Ramsey Clark doesn't like ANYTHING America does. But so few compared to recent times.
Most of the attacks on Bush aren't moral. They're political. And they're not kidding anyone.
