A memo to alcaray...If the solar sail does not work...
...will it still make an impressive space-mirror?
That's assuming C0SMOS-1 is successfully launched & deployed.
[It has to be launched before Nov/01/2003, otherwise the PS project will have
to wait until 2004.]
Even if Thomas Gold is correct, and solar sails won't work according
to his theory, the COSMOS-1 may still make an impressive space-mirror
fully-deployed.
How bright will it appear?
As bright as Venus?
Brighter?
Upto magnitude (-10)? Or as bright as the moon?
[Here are some helpful numbers: The solar-sail will have an area of 600^2 meters,
and should be deployed at an LEO orbit of 400km.]
Raoul?
Phil?
You two are well-versed in astronomy, can you work out what magnitude
that PS solar-sail will achieve?
