I know what you're asking and I thought about it when I saw the 1/5th 'of the scale' machinery. I found this paper this morning, Narrow=Angle Astrometry with the Space Interferometry Mission: The Search for Extra-solar Planets. 1. Detection and Characterization of Single Planets (July 10, 2002). Just started reading it. I thought of R.L. and I was hoping that maybe he would have an idea on how it works. *g*
